The Expert Panel on Psychiatric, Mental Health & Substance Use undertakes policy-related initiatives to improve the public's mental health and the delivery of high-quality mental/behavioral health care, and to inform policy makers about nursing's contributions to mental/behavioral health care.

Summary:
The panel is working to achieve greater influence and involvement through strategic partnerships that affect mental health and substance use policy. Members of the Expert Panel are representatives on key committees or councils of federal agencies that influence the science, education and practice underlying psychiatric-mental health care. Achieving parity in access to and coverage of mental health and addiction care is an Academy policy priority.

Hosted by the Expert Panel on Child, Adolescent, and Family, in collaboration with the Expert Panels on Psychiatric, Mental Health, and Substance Use as well as Trauma and Violence, this dialogue addressed the national crisis of chronic stress for children, youth, and families.
