Academy Health

Dedicated to improving the knowledge base of health care decision-making by supporting the professional development of those who conduct and use health services research, advocating for the tools and funding necessary to do this important work, and helping to translate findings into policy and practice.

Advancing Excellence in Long-Term Care Collaborative (AELTCC)

Assists nursing homes achieve excellence in quality care. Fellow Barbara Bowers represents the Academy’s Expert Panel on Aging at AELTCC.

Center to Champion Nursing in America

Works to increase the nation's capacity to educate and retain nurses who are prepared and empowered to positively impact health care access, quality, and costs.

Choosing Wisely

Choosing WiselyFirst announced in December 2011, Choosing Wisely® is part of a multi-year effort led by the ABIM Foundation to support and engage health care providers in being better stewards of finite resources. Participating health care provider organizations are working with the ABIM Foundation and Consumer Reports to share the lists widely with their members and convene discussions about the provider’s role in helping patients make wise choices.

Academy has partnered with the ABIM Foundation and the Choosing Wisely campaign to improve health through nursing knowledge and practice. The Academy's contribution will be presented in the fall of 2014.

Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC)

A non-partisan group of national partnership organizations committed to ensuring that all people with advanced illness receive high-quality, coordinated, and compassionate care consistent with personal goals and values. CEO Cheryl Sullivan is the Academy's representative.

Eldercare Workforce Alliance (EWA)

A collaborative of 29 organizations, EWA addresses immediate and imminent workforce issues concerning aging populations. The alliance’s mission is to build a caring and competent eldercare workforce, joining in partnership with older adults, their families and other unpaid caregivers to provide high-quality care and improve the quality of life for older adults and their families. CEO Cheryl Sullivan is the Academy's representative.

IOM Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education

Provides a convening mechanism to enhance mutual understanding of integrated health professional education in the health community. Fellow Mattie Schmitt is the Academy's representative.

IOM Translating Genomic Based Research for Health

Advances field of genomics and improves translation of research findings to health care, education, and policy. Fellow Janet Williams is the Academy's representative.

Forum for Collaborative HIV Research

Provides leadership on policy issues that affect HIV and viral hepatitis research. Fellow Joe Burrage is the Academy's representative.

Joint Commission (TJC) on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations Nursing Advisory Council (NAC)

A coalition of nursing advocates and associations that provides input to the Joint Commission on initiatives that affect the nursing profession and seeks to advance solutions to delivering safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. CEO Cheryl Sullivan is the Academy's representative.

National Coalition on Health Care

Brings together key stakeholders to achieve an affordable, high-value health care system for patients and consumers, for employers and other payers, and for taxpayers. CEO Cheryl Sullivan is the Academy’s representative.

National eHealth Collaborative

Works to educate, connect, convene, and encourage stakeholders who are critical to the successful deployment of HIE nationwide. Fellow Pam Cipriano is the Academy's representative.

National Quality Forum

Builds on advances made by quality improvement organizations and experts to promote use of quality measures by purchasers, consumers, providers, and policymakers. Fellow Gerri Lamb is the Academy's representative.

Nursing Alliance for Quality Care

Advances the highest quality, safety, and value of consumer-centered health care for all individuals-patients, their families, and their communities. Fellow Gerri Lamb is the Academy's representative.

Nursing Community

The Nursing Community is a forum for national nursing associations to build consensus and advocate on a wide spectrum of health care and nursing issues, including practice, education, and research. CEO Cheryl Sullivan is the Academy's representative.

The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease

Aims to use combined resources and voices to focus on chronic disease crisis and highlight commonsense solutions to help shape prevention and wellness policies. CEO Cheryl Sullivan is the Academy's representative.

The nation's largest not-for-profit public education and advocacy alliance working to make research to improve health a higher national priority.

United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC)

Identifies ways in which breastfeeding mothers are supported, ensures that quality breastfeeding services are an essential component of health care for all families, and ensures that women and their families in the workforce are supported in optimal breastfeeding. Fellow Diane Spatz is the Academy's representative.
