American Academy of Nursing Announces 2011 Honorary Fellows
Four distinguished leaders will be celebrated during the Annual Conference and Meeting on October 15, 2011

Washington, DC (August 28, 2011) – The American Academy of Nursing is proud to honor four individuals as Honorary Fellows for their outstanding contributions to health care and/or nursing.

Designation as an Honorary Fellow in the Academy is awarded to individuals not eligible for regular Fellowship who are dedicated to the nursing profession and allows an individual to receive all the benefits of being an Academy Fellow. This honor includes induction into the esteemed Fellowship. The 2011 Honorary Fellows include:

  • Nancy E. Dunton, PhD, Research Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center, School of Nursing and Director of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators®;
     
  •  Millicent Gorham, MBA, Executive Director of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc. and former director of government relations for the National Rural Health Association;
     
  • Tine Hansen-Turton, MGA, JD, CEO of the National Nursing Centers Consortium and Vice President of Public Health Management Corporation; and,
     
  • Joanne Spetz, PhD, Professor at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco and former consultant to the Institute of Medicine Committee on the Future of Nursing. 

 

An induction ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2011, is considered for many the pinnacle of the American Academy of Nursing’s  Annual Conference and Meeting. The Ceremony will take place at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC with a soiree to follow.
