The American Academy of Nursing is pleased to announce an ongoing initiative, generously supported by the Jonas Philanthropies to support early-career scholars who will contribute to shaping nursing practice, education, and research policy. The Academy Jonas Policy Scholars Program is a two-year fellowship program in which up to six highly qualified doctoral and post-doctoral students in nursing will be selected annually to learn about the policy work of the American Academy of Nursing while they advance their own career goals in areas emphasized by the Academy. The Academy Jonas Policy Scholars will be matched with a mentor implementing one of the five board designated Academy priorities through an Academy initiative or a mentor actively participating on an expert panel to learn from leading experts in nursing about select health policy issues. Expert panels represent the working groups of the Academy.  They review the current research and needs within their fields to make recommendations on projects or initiatives the Academy should undertake to transform health care policy and practice.

The 2018-2020 Academy Jonas Policy Scholars will begin in October 2018.  The selected Scholars will meet at the Academy’s 2018 (November 1-3) and 2019 (October 24-26) Policy Conferences in Washington, DC.  Scholars’ travel, hotel, and registration for the conferences will be covered by the program.
