Americans Need Health Reform Vote

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, in the East Room of the White House, President Barack Obama’s message was clear: Congress owes Americans a vote on health care reform, and he expects leadership of both houses to act swiftly.

Speaking before American Academy of Nursing CEO Pat Ford-Roegner, Academy staff, and an audience of other influential health care professionals and consumer advocates, President Obama made an impassioned plea to finish the job. March marks the one-year anniversary since his administration launched the health care debate, and the Academy commends the president’s efforts to move this pressing issue forward.

“At stake right now is not just our ability to solve this problem, but our ability to solve any problem. The American people want to know if it’s still possible for Washington to look out for their interests and their future. They are waiting for us to act. They are waiting for us to lead,” President Obama said. “And as long as I hold this office, I intend to provide that leadership. I don’t know how this plays politically, but I know it’s right. And so I ask Congress to finish its work, and I look forward to signing this reform into law.”
