Quality Health Care Expert Panel

The Expert Panel on Quality Health Care motivates progress among policy leaders and influences at the international, national and state levels to articulate and promote nursing's contributions to defining and measuring elements of quality health care, while also providing new models of high quality, safe and efficacious health care services.

Charge to Expert Panel:

The Quality Expert panel addresses policy, research and measurement issues relevant to achieving quality health care.

  • The expert panel chair was asked to represent the Academy on the Board of the Nursing Alliance for Quality Care (NAQC).
     
  • Members of the Quality Expert Panel (Dr. Bonnie Jennings, Dr. Norma Lang, and Dr. Gerri Lamb) have served as the Academy liaison to the group of Nursing Quality Forum nursing members to nominate Academy members to NQF expert panels and to request reviews of NQF documents by Academy members. We have requested financial support for Dr. Jennings to attend NQF meetings to represent the Academy.

Summary:
The members of the Quality Health Care Expert Panel are experts in quality health care policy, research, measurement, and practice and Academy members interested in these topics. The mission of the panel is to influence national policy and research relevant to achieving quality healthcare for Americans. The Expert Panel has focused on advancing research and performance measures that reflect nursing’s contributions to health care quality and safety outcomes.  The Quality Expert Panel has hosted two national state-of-the –science of nursing measurement conferences. In 2009, members of the Quality Expert Panel served on the planning committee for the Nursing and the National Priorities Partnership Workshop convened by the ANA and the National Quality Forum and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Many of the workshop speakers and participants were members of the Quality Expert Panel and the Academy. Members of the Quality Expert Panel also represent the Academy on the new Nursing Alliance for Quality Care and anticipate partnering with the Alliance on projects and initiatives relevant to quality health care.
